What is the Irish Language Scheme?

The Irish Language Scheme outlines the steps to be taken, over time, to ensure the availability of Irish or bilingual (Irish and English) services. The scheme is prepared in line with The Official Languages Act 2003.

Galway Rural Development Irish Language Scheme

Galway Rural Development’s Irish Language Scheme was confirmed by the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and began on the 30/01/2021.

Aim of the Scheme

To make sure people can access services in Galway Rural Development through the use of the Irish language.

Services available

The staff in Galway Rural Development’s Gaeltacht office in Ros Muc : -  Office Administrator, SICAP Development Officer, SICAP Enterprise & Development Officer and SICAP Community Development Officer are all fluent Irish speakers.

Galway Rural Development’s website and a selection of media, SICAP booklets, leaflets and forms are available in Irish.

Where needed, services and training can be delivered through Irish.

Club Mara Carna Sea skills course for youth inclusion immersion in Irish language and Culture for young people
