Labour Market Training

Labour market training provides opportunities for individuals to gain some of the qualifications needed in order to apply for jobs. GRD’s Development officers work with our Training officers to provide employment skills related courses such as Safe Pass, Manual Handling, Fire Safety, HACCP and First Aid.

  • Safe Pass is a mandatory one-day health and safety awareness programme.

    The aim of the programme is to raise the standard of safety awareness in the construction industry and to ensure that, over time, all site personnel undergo basic health and safety awareness training to enable them to work onsite without being a risk to themselves or others who might be affected by their acts or omissions.

    Candidates who successfully complete the programme will receive a Safe Pass Registration Card.

  • This manual handling course will teach you the principles of safe lifting, how the back works, and precautions to take at home and at work that will prevent back injuries.

    Back injuries like sprains, strains, herniated discs, and fractured vertebrae can arise from accidents when lifting heavy loads and can be both painful and dangerous.

    The impact of fire on people, the environment and workplace plus an appreciation of the importance of fire safety

    Legislative Requirements

    Give an understanding of the legal requirements in respect to fire safety; employers and employees responsibilities; emergency procedures and regulations

    Fire Risk Assessment

    Common causes, how it spreads and sources of heat

    Emergency Procedures & Plans

    Detection; human behaviour; what to do; fighting fires

    Fire Extinguishment

    Different kinds of fire; different types of extinguishers; PASS (fighting the fire)

  • First aid training will equip you with the awareness and practical capabilities of how to react if the worst happens.

    When you learn first aid, you have knowledge of how to help someone that collapses, cuts themselves, gets hurt in an emergency situation or finds themselves in a medical emergency.

  • HACCP Stands for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point.

    HACCP is an internationally recognized system for reducing the risk of safety hazards in food.

    A HACCP System requires that potential hazards are identified and controlled at specific points in the process.

  • The first step to learning to drive in Ireland is to pass the driver theory test.

    The theory test is a computer-based examination of motoring theory appropriate to the category of vehicle you wish to be licenced to drive.
