Rural Regeneration and Development Fund
In May 2024, the Department of Rural and Community Development announced that our Rural Regeneration and Development Fund application had been successful and that more than €4m of funding from the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund will see the development of a state-of-the-art community facility at Glenamaddy.
The Glenamaddy Community Area Development application was one of those chosen to address deficits in facilities and to attract people back to live, work, and visit rural areas.
CEO of GRD Steve Dolan described the approval as "a red-letter day". He added "This is a moment for the people of Glenamaddy who put the time and effort into this application and they will be central to what is achieved at the new complex".
Team Leader Conor Carty added "The aim of this development is to create a multi-use hub for community activities in the underserved town of Glenamaddy, and the scope of this project is the overarching socio-economic development of the hinterland".
Chairperson of GRD, Cllr Pete Roche, commented "The project is diverse in providing remote working hubs, indoor physical recreation space; indoor social recreation opportunities; outdoor sensory space and community meeting facilities so that all ages, abilities, interests and backgrounds can find an outlet to engage in the local community".
Pictured at Glenamaddy GAA Complex celebrating the news of the securing of €4m were Conor Carty (LEADER), Cllr Peter Keaveney (Chairperson Glenamaddy/Williamstown LGFC), Nigel Fahy (Glenamaddy GAA, Development Project), and Steve Dolan (CEO of GRD).
