Social Inclusion Community Activation Programme (SICAP)

GRD’s Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) works with communities and people across County Galway.

We help them to identify and meet their own needs.

We help those most in need of support to access training, employment and education.

All the supports we offer under SICAP are FREE.

There are two key SICAP programme goals:

Goal 1 - Supporting Communities

We help to develop Local Community Groups and Social Enterprises. We work with them to make them stronger and better able to address their own needs.

Some of the support we can give includes:

  • help to organise and run themselves

  • help to run projects, community events and social activities

  • training

  • small grants to buy equipment to support their work

  • long–term loan of equipment

  • advice on, for example, how to apply for grants and join the Public Participation Network (PPN)

By working with communities and other organisations we can improve access to information. We can help provide services and support to those who need it most.

Goal 2 - Supporting people

We work with people across all age groups. We help them to improve their own lives and take part in their local community.

We help people to understand their own needs, decide what their goals are, and how to reach them. These goals may be to get a job, set up a business, take part in education or build their self-confidence.

We help people to access training, employment and opportunities.

We can support you if you are:

  • long-term unemployed.

We can help you become more job-ready. We can help you with your CV, training and interview skills. We can help you set up your own business

  • an older or isolated person.

We organise training and classes in your community such as fitness or cookery. We help you to connect with groups in your area.

  • part of a minority group such as Travellers, Roma, people with disabilities or New Communities (migrants).

We provide access to training, education and help to join Local Community Groups

  • a  family or child in a disadvantaged community.

We run homework clubs, play therapy and improve access to music education. We organise parenting classes.

  • young person who is not in education, employment, or training between the ages of 16-25.

We help you to become job-ready or get qualifications.

We also work with many other organisations. We make sure that the people we support are included in policies and planning.
