Culture Night 2024 a “Massive Success in Galway

Culture Night in Galway turned out to be ‘a night for all’ as venues and public spaces across the county opened their doors to host a programme of free entertainment for Culture Night 2024 – an island-wide celebration of arts, heritage and culture. Celebrating its fourteenth year, Galway’s Culture Night brought forward a packed programme of free events for the public.

Paying tribute to all of the individuals, organisations, venues, and volunteers who took part in Culture Night 2024, the Chairperson of Galway Rural Development Cllr Pete Roche, declared this year’s celebration as a massive success and the best Culture Night and indeed Culture Weekend that the county has ever experienced.

Cllr Roche said “The county is widely known as a national centre for culture, creativity and the arts, and Culture Night reminded us of the wonderful people and resources we have in our midst. And I really want to pay tribute to those groups in rural areas who, in partnership with our SICAP team and others, delivered events and ensured the success of the celebration.”

“Among the many successes were the Glinsk Cultural Inclusion events and the Glenamaddy celebration at the Community Garden (on Friday), the bumper International Cuisine gathering with Mountbellew Women’s Shed at the Community Hall (Saturday), and the Kilconnell Celebration of Culture with Asian and Irish music and food at Kilconnell Hall (Sunday).” “In Galway Rural Development we were proud to support these events. The varied mix of offerings over the whole weekend, all free-of-charge, showcased the richness of our county’s culture. I also want to give a special mention to the Ballinasloe Traveller Women’s Group on the success of their Culture Night event celebrating traditions, arts and crafts, music and more.” “And these were just a fraction of the gatherings that took place in the county and city with all praise going to the countless volunteers and contributors. From Tuam to Athenry, from Headford to Kilconly, and from Portumna to Gort in the south; wonderful groups presented wonderful exhibitions of culture. As a county, we outdo ourselves every year”

Culture Night is an initiative of the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and the Creative Ireland Programme in partnership with local authorities and local groups.
